Too Good zu Go – einfach zu gut zum Wegschmeißen!

Too Good to Go – ein sehr einfach zu bedienende App – hilft dabei Lebensmittel, die Bäckereien, Lebensmittelgeschäfte und Restaurants nicht verwenden können, auf die Tische der Menschen zu bringen – und nicht in den Müll.

Immer mehr Geschäfte, Bäckereien und Restaurants rund um den Globus bieten frisches Brot und Gebäck, Lebensmittel sowie diverse Menüs über die App „Too Good To Go“ an. In Österreich sind das derzeit 958 Betriebe, in Deutschland beispielsweise 5.216. Sie alle nutzen die App, die ursprünglich in Kopenhagen eingeführt wurde.

Überraschungsboxen – abgeholt vom Kunden

Die App ermöglicht es den Kunden, in den teilnehmenden Geschäften und Restaurants nach Lebensmittel -„Überraschungsboxen“ zu suchen und dann ihre Bestellung abzuholen. Im Vorhinein genau zu berechnen, wie viel täglich verkauft wird, ist praktisch unmöglich, da die Unternehmen sicherstellen wollen, dass jeder etwas bekommt. Daher bleibt in der Regel am Ende des Tages immer etwas übrig. Das Großartige an dieser App ist also, dass sie diese Lücke schließt − sie bietet dem Kunden einen günstigeren Einstieg mit beliebigen Waren in der Tasche. So werden Backwaren beispielsweise um 2,99 € anstatt 10,00 € angeboten oder diverse Speisen um 3,99 € anstatt 12,0 €.

Restaurants und Lebensmittelgeschäfte stehen oft vor der Herausforderung, Lebensmittel zu spenden. „Wenn Restaurants Schwierigkeiten haben, Lebensmittel an örtliche Notunterkünfte zu spenden, liegt das meist an der Logistik“, sagt Gaeleen Quinn, die die US-Expansion von Too Good to Go leitet. Entweder muss das Restaurant liefern, oder die Wohltätigkeitsorganisation muss sammeln, und das wird unrentabel für ein paar Brote oder eine kleine Auswahl an zusätzlichen Produkten. Bei Fertiggerichten muss man sicherstellen, dass sie durchgehend temperaturkontrolliert sind und innerhalb kurzer Zeit gegessen werden. Für kleinere, unabhängige Restaurants sind diese Herausforderungen oft zu groß, um sie zu bewältigen.

Restaurants und Geschäfte bieten Überraschungsboxen oder -sackerl an, und die Kunden sind innerhalb eines bestimmten Zeitraums selbst für die Abholung des Essens verantwortlich. Das macht die Handhabung viel einfacher und weniger kostenintensiv.

Allein in Österreich gibts schon um die 400.000 User von Too Good To Go.

Ökologischen Fußabdruck reduzieren

Es gibt natürlich noch andere Lösungen, um das Spenden von Lebensmitteln bequemer zu machen, und auch weitere Apps. Doch diese sind noch nicht so weit verbreitet. In Europa ist es Too Good to Go gelungen, jeden Tag etwa 100.000 Mahlzeiten davor zu bewahren, in den Mist zu wandern. In Deutschland konnten beispielsweise bis jetzt um die 5,2 Millionen Mahlzeiten gerettet werden, in Österreich um die 436.000. Und mit jeder geretteten Mahlzeit reduziert sich auch der ökologische Fußabdruck des Unternehmens. Und jeder einzelne Konsument kann seinen Teil dazu beitragen.
