Das Elektroautounternehmen Aptera Motors ist von den Toten auferstanden. Und man behauptet, ein Fahrzeug gebaut zu haben, das theoretisch dank einer Reihe von Sonnenkollektoren auf dem Dach und der Motorhaube nie aufgeladen werden muss.
Natürlich gibt es viele Vorbehalte wie The Verge berichtet. Doch unter der Annahme, dass die Sonnenkollektoren zumindest mäßig gut funktionieren, könnte der Aptera tatsächlich ein guter Weg in die E-Mobilität sein. Die hauptsächliche Hürde für Elektrofahrzeuge –die Reichweite der Batterie – würde dann nämlich nicht mehr so ins Gewicht fallen.

Aptera behauptet weder, ein Perpetuum Mobile gebaut zu haben, noch dass der Batterie des dreirädrigen Fahrzeugs niemals der Saft ausgehen kann.
Vielmehr sagt das Unternehmen in einer Pressemitteilung, dass das Fahrzeug eine außergewöhnliche Reichweite von rund 1.600 Kilometer pro Ladung hat. Hierbei sind auch die Sonnenkollektoren berücksichtigt, die an sonnigen Tagen Saft im Wert von 70 Kilometern hinzufügen. Unter der Annahme, dass ein typischer Fahrer weniger fährt, könnte der Aptera eine lange Lebensdauer haben, ohne an einer echten Ladestation anhalten zu müssen.

Als Unternehmen hatte Aptera Probleme, sein ungewöhnliches Design auf die Straße zu bringen. Nachdem seine Autos bereits 2009 vom Energieministerium zertifiziert worden waren, schloss das Unternehmen 2011 seine Türen, da es laut The Verge keinen Kredit aufnehmen konnte.
Man wird jetzt erneut versuchen, die Autos auf die Straße zu bringen. Vorbestellungen für die Modelle Paradigm und Paradigm Plus werden bereits angenommen, jedoch könnten diese um die 46.000 US-Doller kosten.
